DESTINED TO BE THE BRINGER OF LIGHT

“The light shines into the darkness of my room every morning; despite dark storms, the sun eventually shines.

Opening the blinds first thing in the morning symbolizes the fact that I try to see the light above all the darkness in everyone and every situation I encounter.”

- excerpt from Lucy’s college essay

“The smile. The smile was to let you know that she was there if you needed her. The laughter was in case you had missed the message of the smile. The hug was to tell you, ‘here I am.’ The smile, the laughter, the hug - all they were was a reflection of what was in her heart. How she felt about you.”

— Deacon Louis Phang Sang, excerpt from Lucy’s Funeral Mass held at Epiphany
Catholic Church in South Miami, FL on September 12, 2022.

Lucesita

Mrs. Edith Diaz, Lucy’s English II Honors American Lit teacher, lovingly honors her memory and shares a rough draft of Lu’s college essay, titled “Lucesita,” at the Student Mass held at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy on September 9, 2022. On a day when our hearts were broken, Lucy’s last message to the world was filled with signs of hope beyond the darkness. Watch and listen here.

Lucy in the Sky shines bright in our darkest moments.

As the dawn breaks on September 6th, 2022, the morning after she left us, a single blue ray, the rare and elusive anti-crepuscular ray or Angel Ray(s) as they’re sometimes referred to, appears first, then transforms into an arch, akin to Mary’s Mantle, enveloping and consoling the sorrowful hearts of friends and classmates gathered at Matheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables, FL.

“The skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

- Psalm 19:1

On September 14th, 2022, days after her funeral service, the first of a series of double rainbows, unlike any we’ve experienced before, light up the sky and spark wonder and awe as thousands from miles across the city serve as witnesses to a glimpse of ‘our girl’ in heaven and the truth of God’s glory, love, and providence.

More signs of HOPE
